Thermosleeve nozzle

Description

The heat exchanger lying on two saddles has a diameter of 3,6m and a length of 16,4m with an effective wall thickness of 5cm. The internal pressure is 36,5bar, the interior temperature 251 °C. The nozzles are made as thermosleeve to minimize stresses and strains near the intersection. The influence of the temperature on the materiall law (SA-616 70 for the vessel and SA350 GR.LF2 for the nozzles) was to be considered in the analysis.

What we did

Additionally to the verifications according to the American ASME-code we performed a fe-calculation for the intersection at the inlet-nozzle. Considering the symmetry conditions a cutout of 180° was idealized in the computation. With respect to the decaying stresses due to the shell theory, only few of the nozzles had to be idealized. The decay-length was calculated using the german AD-B9 (working group for pressure vessels). The fe-calculation was done using the program Ansys considering the pipe end-loads due to internal pressure. The stresses and strains were evaluated using the categories of the American ASME-code. The verifications were written in german and english language.
